ElectionVine Launch
June 27th, 2007
Today we launched ElectionVine, a distributed election widget designed to poll the readers of many sites across the web. To see how it works, just take a look at my sidebar. I have it set by default to display the results of the readers of my site. Right now Ron Paul is in the lead, but just moments ago it was Al Gore (facebook people must’ve shown up here). Speaking of Facebook, that’s where we first tested the waters with our Facebook Election 08 Application.
TechCrunch did a nice writeup about ElectionVine, and Mike Arrington is running the widget on that post. It looks like TechCrunch readers support Obama at the moment.
It will be interesting to watch public opinion unfold as we approach the primaries, and eventually as we run into the general election in 2008. The purpose of ElectionVine is to provide a grassroots counterbalance to the polls traditionally conducted by mainstream media sites. We don’t think that ElectionVine will necessarily provide the ‘most accurate’ results, but we do think that it will provide valuable insight into where the distribution of supporters of various candidates spend their time on the web, and it will be most interesting to compare our results to others’.
Our main objective was to make this extremely simple to use, both installing the application on your site and also for voting. Installation only takes a few minutes, you just select a few options and we spit out a snippet of code that you copy and paste right into your sidebar. Voting is really easy too. We allow you to vote once per month, and you can change your vote at any time. Once you vote, your vote will count toward the totals of every site you visit thereafter that runs ElectionVine. So, you don’t have to vote more than once a month if you don’t want to. Just vote once and surf as you normally would.
Well, that’s about it for now. I know I don’t write about Newsvine as often as I probably should. But, since I write a lot of the Newsvine Blog entries, I get my fill.

The application sure looks very nice and interesting. Shame that the USA election is not that interesting. Though I can’t propose any Global subject instead.

Actually, this is set to be one of the most interesting US elections in history. This is the first time in 70 or 80 years that an incumbent President or Vice President is not in the race, leaving the field pretty wide open.

This is the most interesting election in my lifetime. Regardless of who wins it will prove once and for all whether or not a president can deliver on his or her promises–or whether the so-called corporate interests really run our nation.
